FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ's)
How does FRONTLINE work?
  • Frontline Brand Products including FRONTLINE, contain fipronil, a unique ingredient that works like no other product in the world to rid dogs of fleas and ticks. Upon contact with FRONTLINE, fleas and ticks absorb fipronil; shortly after exposure, they die.
How are fleas and ticks exposed to FRONTLINE?
  • FRONTLINE Plus and Spot-on are applied directly to the skin between your dog's shoulders. Within 24 hours, FRONTLINE spreads, through a unique process called "translocation," and is stored in the natural oils lying just beneath the coat of the treated dog. FRONTLINE is then slowly and continuously released from the animal's hair follicles onto the hair. That's where fleas and ticks make contact with FRONTLINE.
How will I know that FRONTLINE is working?
  • If your dog already has fleas when you first apply FRONTLINE, you may see them coming to the top of the animal's coat and jumping around excitedly. Be assured that this is a sign that FRONTLINE is working. Previously attached ticks will die and may easily be removed.
What if new fleas or ticks get on my dog?
  • Once FRONTLINE has eliminated all "resident" fleas and ticks, new arrivals may show up on your dog from the environment. They will soon die after they're exposed to FRONTLINE.
How often should I apply FRONTLINE?
  • Apply FRONTLINE once a month to prevent reinfestation by fleas and ticks. In some climates, year-round protection is necessary. Be sure to follow the advice of your veterinarian.
What if my dog gets wet?
  • If the oil containing FRONTLINE is washed away from the hair by bathing or shampooing, it will be replenished through the hair follicles. That is why FRONTLINE lasts so long and is still effective after frquent swimming or bathing or even multiple shampoos.
Should I be concerned about applying FRONTLINE to my dog?
  • Unlike some other products, FRONTLINE is not systemic: It does not circulate throughout the animal's bloodstream, but remains in the oil just beneath the coat. FRONTLINE has been used successfully on millions of dogs.
Is FRONTLINE Plus effective against mosquitoes?
  • Yes, FRONTLINE Plus kills mosquitoes before the next blood meal and before they lay eggs.
What are the added features of FRONTLINE Plus?
  • FRONTLINE Plus not only kills fleas, flea eggs, flea larvae and ticks but also mosquitoes, lice and mites.
